An updated version of the European standard EN 1090-2 was published in February 2025. This standard is decisive for the design and manufacturing of load-bearing steel structures, which also include many mechanical structures in industrial installations. Geomechanics is certified for EN 1090-2 EXC2 and applies this standard daily in our welding, construction, and manufacturing processes. In this news update, we will explain what has changed – and what the implications are for you.
Stricter requirements, more clarity
The new version EN 1090‑2:2018+A1:2024 contains both technical updates and clarifications. For instance, new informative annexes have been added regarding heat treatment, weld preparation, and tolerances, among others. Existing annexes have also been restructured and supplemented. In practice, this means:
- Greater attention to the traceability of materials and welding procedures.;
- New guidelines for inspection and testing of welded joints;
- Clarification of tolerances in flat sheet constructions and complex parts.
For companies in the industry, this means in concrete terms: greater certainty regarding quality, but also stricter requirements for purchasing and execution.
